Empowering students to read
United Way Blackhawk Region believes empowering students to choose their favorite books to read, enjoy, and add to their home libraries helps to encourage a lifelong love of reading and learning.
In collaboration with Scholastic Book Fairs, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, United Way Blackhawk Region has expanded its sponsorship of Book Fairs to get engaging books into the hands of students at three (Title I) elementary schools in the community of South Beloit, Illinois.
In addition to the annual winter Book Fairs, United Way Blackhawk Region has added Book Fairs prior to the end of school to gift students with summer reading materials.
At each Scholastic Book Fair it sponsors, United Way Blackhawk Region will provide students with two free high quality books. Students choose from popular series, award-winning titles, new releases, and other great reads.
Scholastic will also provide profits of the total sales generated at the Book Fair in the form of Scholastic Dollars. The schools can redeem these Scholastic Dollars for books and other educational resources through Scholastic’s School Resource Catalog to bolster the school’s main library or individual classroom libraries.
